"unsubstantiated claims of need and survival?". A need by its very definition cannot be unsubstationed. The power does not lie in the hand of the writer, not if they have to choose between financial survival - eating their next meal - or being paid a penance and wavering all rights to your work. That thought process, that the burden should be on the person who doesn't have the choices you have, is privilege. The burden shouldn't fall on the Writers, it should fall on the people who make copyright law and the successful authors using ghostwriters themselves. It shouldn't be legal to take away someones rights to their royalties, or their copyright or to waver all rights to their name. The people who can afford to make a change are not the ones you're thinking of and in this case blaming.
